AP State Archaeology Museum

In 1930, the State Museum was installed inside a palace constructed in 1864, within the Public Gardens, Nampally. The Nizam had built the palace for one of his daughters, and it was called the "Doll's House". However, due to a superstition, the daughter did not occupy the palace. The AP State Archeology Museum is the only museum in the country with reproductions of the Ajanta paintings. Its manuscript section includes a copy of the Quran bearing the seal of Emperor Shah Jahan

The Andhra Pradesh State Museum was formerly known as “Hyderabad Museum” is the oldest museum in Hyderabad, located in the Public Gardens at Red Hills. The museum was originally established by the VII Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan. He has a strong desire to save the cultural heritage of his state for which he created the Department of Archaeology in 1915. As the collections of artifacts increased manifolds, it was decided to convert it into a museum in the year 1930.The structure of the building housing the museum reflects the Indo-Saracen style of architecture. This place can easily be termed as the art lover’s paradise as it houses rich repositories of art objects and antiques from various parts of India.

The artifacts on display at the museum are placed in various galleries such as Buddhist Gallery, Brahmanical and Jaina Gallery, Bronze Gallery, Manuscripts, Arms & Armor Gallery, Paintings Gallery, Egyptian Mummy and Numismatics Gallery. The two main galleries at the museum are of Buddhist and Hindu Sculptors.
